Bitcoin Incognito: Secure, fast and community-driven cryptocurrency

Bitcoin Incognito is a truly anonymous and fast cryptocurrency which sticks to the original standards of Bitcoin; keeping the user base incognito. By implementing Zerocoin Protocoand Proof-of-Stake technology we believe Bitcoin Incognito is the closest thing to Satoshi's vision since Bitcoin itself. Our goal and purpose is to provide a truly anonymous currency which helps users stay incognito in the cryptosphere.

Reddcoin on Raspberry Pi

A lot of user asked lately, how to run Reddcoin on the popular Raspberry Pi platform. Raspberry Pi is a cheap ARM computer (using junk leftover chips with 10 year lag in technology) but it has enough RAM and consumes around 5 watts, so its ideal to use it for Reddcoin Staking.
This tutorial is not from me, i take NO RESPONSIBILITY about these binaries or the accuracy. This tutorial is created by cryptoBUZE, a fellow member of the Reddcoin community.
Before attempting to follow this tutorial, do a sudo apt-get update
The following commands must be run to install dependencies:
sudo apt-get install libboost-thread-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost-program-options-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost-filesystem-dev
sudo apt-get install libboost-system-dev
Download and install older libssl version - bitcoin clones are using this glorious and fantastic communist product of openssl so it naturally does not works. Its getting totally incompatible after each relase even with itself. Therefore, you must install this, which is the compatible one with the wallet software (no, you cant even compile the code with the newer one) :
wget http://apt.screenlyapp.com/raspbian/pool/main/o/openssl/libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1%2Bdeb8u6_armhf.deb
wget http://apt.screenlyapp.com/raspbian/pool/main/o/openssl/libssl-dev_1.0.1t-1%2Bdeb8u6_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i libssl1.0.0_1.0.1t-1+deb8u6_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i libssl-dev_1.0.1t-1+deb8u6_armhf.deb
Download the wallet software itself:
wget https://github.com/cryptoBUZE/reddcoin/releases/download/raspberrypi/reddcoind
wget https://github.com/cryptoBUZE/reddcoin/releases/download/raspberrypi/reddcoin-cli
wget https://github.com/cryptoBUZE/reddcoin/releases/download/raspberrypi/reddcoin-qt
chmod +x reddcoin\*
When speaking about compatibility, ARM is similar to x86 if you are running user mode applications. You know that every arm based chip needs a different kernel due to the lack of an unified IO system thankfully for the glorious clueless egoistic communist developers at ARM, who succesfully bankrupted the corporation after 25 or so years, and the company got acquired by the japanese softbank. But in user mode, its sort of backward compatible if you have all the proper libraries installed. This means that this will run on any other newer ARM based machine as well (not just raspberry pi-s, on every other arm stuff, chromebooks, or android phones hacked to work with linux).

(Updated) [Staking] Reddcoin Core client GUI wallet on a Raspberry Pi Model 3B

Intro

This thread is an update to my first Reddcoin staking tutorial that was written 7 months ago.

The reason for the update
My Reddcoin Core software crashed and became unusable. My Raspberry Pi 3B would lag and freeze, I couldn't stake anymore.

Instead of just redoing everything the same way, I wanted to see if I could improve on 3 points:

The updates

If you would like to tip me
Writing a tutorial like this takes time and effort; tips are appreciated. My Reddcoin address: RqvdnNX5MTam855Y2Vudv7yVgtXdcYaQAW.

Overview

Steps

Video

This video shows how long it takes to start Reddcoin Core.   TL;DR:

Extra

Backup
Backup your wallet to prevent losing the RDDs in your wallet! There are two methods to backup, do both. Make new backups if you create a new receiving address!

Boot with only 1 USB drive plugged in:
Make sure only the USB drive (with the swap partition and data partition) is plugged in when you boot up your Raspberry Pi. This to make sure the swap partition (/dev/sda1) is recognized correctly.   If you boot up with multiple USB drives, Lubuntu might see the USB drive with the swap partition as the second drive (instead of the first drive), and ignore the 2 GB swap partition. If this happens, starting Reddcoin can render the Raspberry Pi unresponsive.

Connection issues If you have issues syncing the blockchain because you have 0 network connections, please follow the instructions in this thread.

Start Reddcoin Core easier
Run a shell script (.sh file), so you can start Reddcoin just by double clicking on an icon on your Desktop.

Minimization options
Adjust minimization options, so you can safely press on the X button (the close/exit button on the upper right corner).

RealVNC VNC Viewer (client) and VNC Connect (server): To remote connect to the Raspberry Pi, I use VNC Viewer ad VNC Connect from RealVNC.

Chromium as browser: The updates break Firefox, the browser crashes when you try to run it. Install another browser, Chromium, to solve this issue.

Updates / Upgrades
If Software Updater shows up and tells you that there is updated software available, do not install the updates using Software Updater. Use LXTerminal to update Lubuntu.

Run a 0.14 Full-Node on RaspberryPi3 Pruned(less than 16GB SD needed)

Hi!
Happy if this guide helps you.
Tip if you want: 19656Uwdwko5RjtnuwQENpjBwE3ChzD59v
UPDATE 04/06/17
Add 'uacomment=UASF-SegWit-BIP148' into your bitcoin.conf if you want to signal UASF.
UPDATE 03/13/17
ADDED a tl;dr; Version at the end of this Post.
UPDATE 03/12/17:
Just to test it - I reinstalled all on 8GB SD and it works as well. But maybe you should use at least 16GB for the beginning.
Using a 128GB card for the first version was a little bit stupid - so I reinstalled everything on a 8GB SD card. Including Linux and a pruned blockchain - and it works.
I used prune=550 and Jessie Lite (headless / command line) - without wallet and gui.
The SD is almost full, but it works so far
I also updated the whole manual a bit to make things more clear. Thank you for all your feedback!
Just started my Bitcoin Node today and wanted to share the way I did it with people who are interested in running their own full node. It took some time to write everything down - hopefully correct so far.
I am sure, many people around bitcoin are way more informed and educated as I am - I am the noob. So I wrote this manual to help users like me - noobs, to get started with a cheap, simple bitcoin node on raspberry pi.
Have fun!
I wanted to get my Raspberry Pi 3 working as a node to support the network. Actually the process of installing and running the node was more or less easy - but for Noobs (like I am) it might be a bit tricky to start the whole thing, because there are different ways.
Did you - like me - think you would need +120GB on the raspi, external USB HDD to be a full node? You won't!
If you have a Raspberry and you know what Bitcoin is, I guess, you are a little bit aware of linux, networks and of course bitcoin - so I won't go into detail too much.
This guide is just a little helper to get a full node running on your raspberry pi. Thanks to the help of the nice people in this sub and of course the documentation by the developers, I got it working - and of course also special thanks to raspnode.com - as I followed their tutorial to start - I went some other ways here and there - so please read carefully.
For the Part 2 I would suggest to have http://raspnode.com/diyBitcoin.html open and read through my manual.
I split the tutorial in 2 Parts - PART ONE is about installing the client on your PC and downloading the Blockchain.
PART TWO is about the setup of the raspberryPi and transferring the pruned blockchain to the pi and run it as a full node!
The first thing to be aware of is: You actually need to download the whole blockchain to get this working - if you already have your bitcoin client synced on the PC / MAC great you can reuse it!
Now you might think "but you said less than 16GB in the title!"
Yes, but the good thing is you won't need to download it on your Raspberry, neither you need to sync it completely on your raspberry which took ages (weeks!) before. When you finished this Guide, you will just have a max. 4GB Blockchain on your Raspberry Pi - but it still is a full node! The magic word is Pruning.
Maybe even a 8GB SD Card works just fine including Linux (jessie lite)!
So, if you already have a full node on your PC - Great you can almost skip PART ONE - BUT have at how to Prune in PART ONE if you don't know about it.
For PART TWO you'll need a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3 (I used 3) min. 8GB (works also) or better 16GB SD Card. (I used a 128GB for the first version of this manual - which is way too big)

PART ONE

This is the manual how to get started on you PC / MAC / Linux (I did it on Win7)
Go to: https://bitcoin.org/en/download and download the core Client for your Machine (I used win64).
Install it and configure it to save the Blockchaindata to the directory of your choice - so instead getting 120GB on your C drive, I would suggest to download it to another place like a USB drive.
You can set this up during the install. Standard folder for the blockchain folder is "%APPDATA%\Bitcoin" on Windows.
or you can do it after the install by creating a bitcoin.conf file inside your installation folder / or %APPDATA%\Bitcoin and add
datadir=l:\yourfolder
to the file. Line by line.
By the way here you could also just add dbcache - to use more memory to speed up the process a bit:
dbcache=4096
if you don't want to use the settings inside the program. (you can also set this inside the program under settings! If you have this inside the bitcoin.conf you will see the amount you set there from inside the program - it overrides the values)
You can check inside the windows client under settings, if you can see a manual dbcache is set by having a look at the left footer area. When your dbcache value shows up, everything is fine.
So the Blockchain download process will take time - maybe a few days! Depending on your machine, internet connection and HDD.
The Blockchain is huge as it contains every single transaction of the past until today. You won't need to keep your PC running all the time, you can turn it off and on and it will resync automatically when you start bitcoin-qt.exe!
Make sure to close the client always via "quit" - ctrl+q.
After you have your bitcoin core installed, the blockchain downloaded and synced - you are ready to PRUNE!
First - close the Client and let it close smoothly. After it is really closed you can follow these steps:
By pruning, your blockchain will dramatically shrink. From 120GB to just a few GB.
Be aware, that you will lose your Downloaded Blockchain as pruning will erase a big chunk of it! If you have enough space, you could of course keep the full blockchain saved somewhere on another HDD.
You can prune by editing your bitcoin.conf file by adding:
prune=550
I used prune=1024 - not sure where the differences are right now (min. prune=550). (for my 8GB version I used 550! I suggest to use this.)
Save the bitcoind.conf file and restart your windows client.
It will now clean up the Blockchain. So just the latest blocks are saved. The client should start without any problems. Maybe it takes some time to prune the blockchain data.
Check if everything works normally (the client opens as usual, you can see an empty wallet) than close the client.
Inside the Bitcoin Folder, you'll find two folders called:
blocks chainstate
those are the interesting folders containing the important data (now pruned) - and we will transfer those two to the raspberry later!
Now you are good to start the raspi transfer explained in the next part.

PART 2

Here is what I did:
1) I installed Raspian Pixel (https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/) using a 128 GB SD - which is not needed because of "Pruning" - I think a 16GB card might work, too! (You can also install Raspian Jessie Lite - which saves you even more space, as it runs headless - only command line) (Updated: It is better to use Jessie Lite to save a lot of space - when you are fine with only command line)
2) I followed partly this tutorial to get everything running and setup:
http://raspnode.com/diyBitcoin.html
Please have a look at it - I have copied the Headlines in capitals to let you know what I did, and what I skipped.
On Tutorial Page: Start with RASPBIAN (OPTIONAL) CONFIG OPTIONS.
Set You RasPi up including "EDITING FILES" to save your Layout at the tutorial page and come back here.
I skipped the CONFIGURE USB AND SET AUTOMOUNT process, as we are going to use PRUNING to reduce the 120GB to a tiny filesize - so USB Devices are not needed here!
It was necessary to ENLARGE SWAP FILE to install bitcoin core - otherwise it didn't went through which ended in a frozen raspi.
So have a close look by following the raspnode tutorial at: ENLARGE SWAP FILE.
I have my raspi running via cable to router - but you can also WiFi setup everything described under NETWORKING ON THE RASPBERRY PI.
Now comes the interesting part: Follow the steps at DOWNLOADING BITCOIN CORE DEPENDENCIES - they work fine for 0.14.0 too. Git should be on Board already when you installed Pixel - otherwise you would need to install it.
sudo apt-get install git -y (only jessy lite)
I skipped the next command lines - as I don't use bitcoin-qt wallet. If you want to use it as wallet - do the step.
mkdir ~/bin cd ~bin
Now you are in the folder you want your bitcoin core data be downloaded to via git. I didn't Downloaded the Berkeley Database source code - so I also skipped the whole next command lines
[email protected]~/bin$ wget http://download.oracle.com/berkeley-db/db-4.8.30.NC.tar.gz [email protected]~/bin$ tar -xzvf db-4.8.30.NC.tar.gz [email protected]~/bin$ cd db-4.8.30.NC/build_unix/ [email protected]~/bin/db-4.8.30.NC/build_unix$ ../dist/configure --enable-cxx [email protected]~/bin/db-4.8.30.NC/build_unix$ make -j4
and went on with "INSTALLING BITCOIN"!
I followed the first part but instead downloading 0.13 I took of course the latest version:0.14
git clone -b 0.14 https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.git cd bitcoin ./autogen.sh
this might take some time to start.
If you have trouble with hanging RESOLVING DELTAS - just restart the Raspberry Pi and remove the bitcoin folder inside /~bin using
rm -rf bitcoin
this command will delete the folder and you can reuse
git clone -b 0.14 https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.git

For some reason RESOLVING DELTAS is a common problem with different downloads - so just retry it and at least after 3 times it should work!

as I didn't use the GUI/ Wallet, I ran
./configure --enable-upnp-default --disable-wallet
as I don't need the wallet functionality.
I didn't need to use "MAKE" which saves you maybe up to 2.5 hours.
instead you can just go ahead with:
sudo make install
(If I am wrong in doing so - please let me know)
The install takes some time - and just a heads up: when it gets stuck somewhere - just redo the installation process - it took three times to went through - stuck at some processing.
After the installation took place you can finally get your Raspberry Pi Node running in no time!
To test if the the installation went through - you can just start bitcoind using:
bitcoind &
than check if everything is working so far:
bitcoin-cli getinfo
after a few seconds you should see version: etc...
if not, something went wrong. Try to redo the steps in the raspnode tutorial.
(don't give up if it failed - retry! Ask your questions here)
IMPORTANT: you need to stop bitcoin on your raspberry now!
bitcoin-cli stop
If you don't need an external USB Drive - what I hope - as we are going to use pruning just go ahead and skip the USB part and create a file inside (or follow the raspnode tutorial on how to setup the USB drive):
cd .bitcoin
sudo nano bitcoin.conf
and enter the exact same pruning size you have used on your Desktop Machine to prune. I used 1024 but the minimum is 550. (used 550 for the 8GB SD card on PC and Raspberry)
prune=550
That's it for the raspi.
update: To signal UASF enter in a new line:
uacomment=UASF-SegWit-BIP148

TRANSFER

Now you have to transfer the two folders CHAINSTATE and BLOCKS from your PC bitcoind directory to your raspberry.
I am using a program called "WINSCP" - it is free and easy to use: https://winscp.net/eng/download.php
We need this to transfer the files to the Raspberry pi. Pretty sure you can also do it via SSH - but I am the noob. So let's keep it simple.
Open Winscp and put in the IP Address of your Raspberry Pi, User and Password (same as in SSH)
You should now see the directories on your Raspberry Pi. There is a folder called
.bitcoin
enter it and you will see the two folders
blocks & chainstate
you can delete them on the raspberry as they have some data from your previous test inside.
Make sure you can also see the bitcoin.conf file in that directory, which needs to contain the exact same prune line, like the one on your desktop machine. If not, make sure to edit it via SSH. The line "datadir=l:\yourfolder" is obviously not needed in the Raspberry bitcoin.conf file.
Now grab the two folders CHAINSTATE and BLOCKS from your PC and copy them to your .bitcoind folder.
I also copied banlist.dat, fee_estimation.dat, mempool.dat and peers.dat to the folder - not really knowing if needed! Not needed.
The whole copy process might take some minutes (against some weeks in the old way).
After copying is finished, you can now start bitcoind on the Raspberry.
bitcoind &
the & symbol let you still use the command line while the process is running btw.
The process - if succesfull - will take some time to finish.
bitcoin-cli getinfo
Will give you some informations what is going on right now. When you can see, that it is checking the blocks, this is good!
If you get an error - double check - if you have the correct prune size (same as on desktop machine) - in bitcoin.conf and that this file is inside .bitcoin on RaspberryPi. It took me some time, to find my mistakes.
Congrats! You are almost a part of the network!
To make your node now a fullnode, you will need to go to your router (often 192.168.1.1) and enable portforwarding for your raspberry pi - and open ports 8333 - that's it!
You can now go to: https://bitnodes.21.co/nodes/
scroll down to "JOIN THE NETWORK" and check check if your node IP is connected!
It will show up as soon as the blocks are checked and the raspi is running.
Well done!
Now you are running a full node, with a small Blockchain and got it working in Minutes, not weeks!
I really hope, my little tutorial worked for you and your are part of the Node network now.
If you have problems or I made a mistake in this helper tut, just let me know and I will try to make it better.
Have fun and NODL!
the noob
tl;dr; (if you are a real noob start with the non-tl;dr version!)
tl;dr; PART ONE
1) Download & install / setup bitcoincore @ https://bitcoin.org/de/download
2) change dbcache to something smaller than your memory and download the whole Blockchain (120GB).
3) create a file called bitcoin.conf put the line prune=550 (or higher) in to activate pruning on win inside %appData%/bitcoin
4) Open ports 8333 on your Router to make this a full node with a smaller Blockchain.
You are running a full node on your PC.
tl;dr; PART TWO
1) Install jessie lite and the needed dependencies on your SDCard - Raspberry
( >git clone -b 0.14 https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin.git )
  • see tutorial for more info.
2) create a file called bitcoin.conf inside .bitcoin and add the same prune=Number you had on your PC.
3) transfer the pruned folders BLOCKS and CHAINSTATE to the Raspberry Folder .bitcoin
4)Start "bitcoind &"
5) let everything sync
6) Make sure you have port 8333 opened on your router.
You are running a full node on your Raspberry with a super small Blockchain (I put all on a 8GB SDcard)
Tip if you want : 19656Uwdwko5RjtnuwQENpjBwE3ChzD59v
updated 03/12 - will update more, soon.
updated 03/12.2 - I updated the whole process a bit and also added some improvements.
updated 03/14/ Added a tl;dr version at the end.

Windows Guide: 1. Download 32 or 64 bit .exe from https://www.biblepay.org/wallet/ 2. Double Click / Run .exe file and step through Install process 3. Run BiblePay 4. Click Tools >> One Click Mining, (Or set up mining manually with steps a through d below)
     a. Open File Explorer, in address bar type: %appdata%      b. Press Enter      c. Go to BiblepayEvolution folder      d. Open biblepay.conf file for editing, add lines and Save
addnode=node.biblepay.org gen=1 genproclimit=1
NOTE: addnode is used to give the wallet a starting node to connect to and sync with gen=1 turns on mining by default when the wallet is opened genproclimit=1 sets number of mining threads to 1 by default

5. Close BiblePay and Run it again 6. In BiblePay, go to Tools menu, Click Debug Console 7. Type these commands into the debug console:
getinfo getmininginfo help
NOTE: getinfo will show you what block number your wallet is currently on and the version number getmininginfo will show you how many threads are running and how much mining hash you have help will show you all the other commands you can use

Threads: 8. To change number of threads to use up for mining
a. Edit %appdata%/BiblepayEvolution/biblepay.conf file: Find with File Explorer or inside the wallet go to Menu >> Tools >> Open Wallet Configuration File
genproclimit=X
and restart BiblePay -or- b. Menu >> Tools >> Debug Console >> Type command:
setgenerate true X
(Replace X with the number of threads you want to use Open Task Manager to view CPU usage)

Using the Pool:
NOTE: To use the pool you must now use the external miner, not the wallet miner https://whitewalr.us/2019/biblepay-nomp-pool-mining.html
  1. Set up an account on pool website: https://pool.biblepay.org/
  2. Create Worker Username(s) - Workers tab >>> Add (NOTE: Your Worker Username needs to be unique)
  3. Enable pool and add Worker Username in %appdata%/BiblepayEvolution/biblepay.conf file, add these lines:
    pool=https://pool.biblepay.org workerid=insertWorkerUsernameHere
4. Restart BiblePay
How to Withdraw Coins From Pool? The pool holds onto your coins, go to "Account" >> "Withdraw" to withdraw your coins In your BiblePay Wallet go to "File" >> "Receiving Address" and you can right click and copy the address and paste it into the Pool's Withdraw screen as the "Destination Address", then click the "Withdraw" button and the coins will be sent from the Pool to your Wallet
Setup Auto-Withdraw Navigate to Account >>> Account Settings >>> Verify your BBP Receiving Address >>> Click Authorize-Auto-Withdraws
Why use a Pool? As the network hash rises (as more miners are mining), it can take longer and longer to solve a block, by using the pool, everyone works together with all of their hash power to solve blocks, and the reward gets split between everyone who contributed based on how much they contributed in hash.
With solo mining (not using the pool) it may take 1 month to finally solve a block and get large BBP reward, with pool you can get small frequent BBP rewards every ~30 minutes. (BBP meaning BiblePay coins)

How to Update: Download exe from biblepay.org and install again, your wallet will stay intact

Backup:
Your wallet.dat stores your private keys that contain the access to your coins, this file is backed up every 24 hours in the backups folder, We also recommend that you save a copy of this file in other places, like a flash drive
Learn More about Backing Up your Wallet.dat https://www.reddit.com/BiblePay/comments/7lksp4/backup_walletdat/

FAQ
QUESTION: How long does it take for coins to mature? If you're solo mining, the coins become mature after ~100 blocks. If you're using the pool, they become mature after 24 hours

Dogecoin on Linux - The Complete Beginner's Guide

I'm writing this because I couldn't find a single condensed guide on compiling the wallet and running mining software on linux, specficially Ubuntu/Linux Mint. I combed Bitcoin and Litecoin forums for similar problems I was running into and eventually got everything nailed down, so here it is in one place, for new Shibes.
If you want to make a Dogecoin directory in your downloads folder to keep things organized, you will need to modify these commands to refelct the change. So instead of going to ~/Downloads/ you will need to go to ~/Downloads/Dogecoin and be sure to put the zipped files there when you download them, but the commands will be the same otherwise.
cwayne18 put in the work to make a PPA for the QT client here.
Ubunutu/Mint/Debian users should be able to install the client with the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cwayne18/doge sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install dogecoin-qt
To update using this method, run
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade dogecoin-qt
Compiling the Wallet Manually
I suggest using the PPA above, but if you want to compile manually, here you go.
1)Download the newest source from here. If you want to check out the Github page, click here
2)Unzip the package with the native client OR, navigate to your downloads and unzip
cd ~/Downloads unzip dogecoin-master.zip
3)Now it's time to compile. You will need to install the dependencies, just copy and paste the following code. It will be a fairly large download and could take some time. It is always important to update before installing any new software, so we'll do that first and then install the dependencies.
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install libssl-dev libdb-dev libdb++-dev libqrencode-dev qt4-qmake libqtgui4 libqt4-dev sudo apt-get install libminiupnpc-dev libminiupnpc8 libboost-all-dev build-essential git libboost1.53-all-dev
4)Once that is done, go to the doge-coin master directory and compile:
cd ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste sed -i 's/-mgw46-mt-sd-1_53//g' dogecoin-qt.pro qmake USE_UPNP=- USE_QRCODE=0 USE_IPV6=0 make -j3
After running the qmake command you will likely see some text similar to
Project MESSAGE: Building without UPNP support Project MESSAGE: Building with UPNP supportRemoved plural forms as the target language has less forms. If this sounds wrong, possibly the target language is not set or recognized.
It's perfectly normal, so don't worry about that.
Your Dogewallet is ready to go! The executable is in ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste and called dogecoin-qt. Your wallet information is in ~/.dogecoin. You can run the wallet at any time by opening terminal and typing
cd ~/Downloads/dogecoin-maste ./dogecoin-qt
Future upgrades to dogewallet are easy. Back up your wallet.dat, and simply follow the same directions above, but you'll be unzipping and building the newer version. You will likely need to rename the old dogecoin-master directory in ~/Downloads before unzipping the newest version and building. Also, it is likely that you will not need to install the dependencies again.
Alternate Method For Installing Dogecoin Wallet from Nicebreakfast
After installing the dependencies listed in step 3, open terminal, then navigate to where you want Dogecoin Wallet stored and run:
git clone https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin ./autogen.sh ./configure make
then when the wallet is updated just run
git pull
from the dogecoin directory.
GPU Mining
GPU mining requires CGminer. My suggestion is to get the executable already built. The creator of cgminer has removed the built file from his website, but I've uploaded it here
sudo apt-get install pkg-config opencl-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev autoconf libtool automake m4 ncurses-dev cd ~/Downloads tar -xvf cgminer-3.7.2-x86_64-built.tar.bz2
Don't use anything newer than 3.7.2. The newer versions of CGMiner don't support GPU mining.
That's it! You have cgminer ready to go! You will run cgminer with the following syntax
cd ~/Downloads/cgminer-3.7.2-x86_64-built/ ./cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://SERVERNAME:PORT -u WORKER.ID -p PASS
A good guide for fine tuning cgminer can be found here; follow the litecoin example.
EDIT
I had trouble getting cgminer running with a single line command, but running it via an executable .sh file works. This is covered in the cgminer setup guide I posted above but I'll put it here too. In the same directory that has the cgminer executable, you need to make a file called cgminer.sh and make it executable. It should contain the follwing:
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1 export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 export DISPLAY=:0 find *.bin -delete sleep 5 ./cgminer
Then you can call cgminer in terminal by doing ./cgminer.sh You will need a cgminer.conf file containing all your options. All of this is covered in the guide that is linked above.
A quick note about AMD drivers: They used to be a huge PITA to install and get working, but the newest Catalyst drivers are great. There's a GUI installer, everything works out of the box, and there is a lot of documentation. You can download them here: AMD Catalyst 14.6 Beta Linux
CPU Mining
For CPU mining I use minerd because it doesn't require any work to get running, simply download it and get to work. Download the built file for your machine 32-bit or 64-bit, and then unzip it and you're ready to go!
cd ~/Downloads tar -xvf pooler-cpuminer-2.3.2-linux-x86.tar.gz
The executable is called minerd and it will be in ~/Downloads but you can move it to wherever you like. To run it, pull up terminal and do
cd ~/Downloads minerd --url=stratum+tcp://SERVER:PORT --userpass=USERNAME.WORKERNAME:WORKERPASSWORD
You're done! Happy mining!
Common Issues
I ran into this and I've seen others with this problem as well. Everything installs fine but there is a shared library file that isn't where it should be. In fact, it isn't there at all.
libudev.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
In terminal, do
sudo updatedb locate libudev.so.0.13.0
And it will probably return a path /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Inside that directory there's a library file called libudev.so.0.13.0. You'll need to make a symlink (aka shortcut) that links libudev.so.1 to libudev.so.0.13.0 So, assuming you're working with libudev.so.0.13.0 do this
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu sudo ln -s libudev.so.0.13.0 libudev.so.1
Now if you do
ln -l
You should see
libudev.so.1 -> ./libudev.so.0.13.0
Meaning you've made the symlink. Also, the text for libudev.so.1 will be blue.

Frustrated

... no more.
Hello everyone,
I retried installing the wallet client and have taken screenshots, so to document my problems and get help.
Well, now it is working just fine on Linux Ubuntu... way easier setup than Lisk or Monero....
Analysis: I have deleted the corrupted pivx folder and wallet. I rebooted the system. Went to pivx.org/wallet. Downloaded the 3.0.5-x86_64-linux-gnu.tar.gz . Unpacked it with engrampa. Ran pivx-qt through right klick and execute/run and the wallet opened. Currently synching the network. Now I will go and buy those 500 PIVX back.
And I honestly do not know, why that did not work yesterday.
Thanks to everyone who offered help!!! and shame on me for posting in such an overreactive way.
I will leave the thread and the original post below, so things stay transparent for redditors or the mods agree to deleting it.
As a thank you for offering so much support, I made a short how-to on medium, actually my first article there :)

Best regards Melchior
Hi Pivx supporters and developers, I am a biologist and have been watching the cryptospace since 2012. Since 2014 I have been in bitcoin and since this year also in ALTs. Although lacking deeper knowledge concerning hard- and software I have been able to switch from Windows to Linux Ubuntu without major problems, setting up wallets for bitcoin, eth, xmr and ark. Of course this is due to those projects either offering sufficient tutorials or supporters presenting ELI5-like tutorials on YouTube, steemit, medium, etc. Tonight I wanted to setup a pivx wallet, transfer funds and stake, however, I did not even succeed in the first step. I tried searching around the web, no good guidance available. Actually, I got so frustrated, I just sold my pivx and rather invest and stake somewhere else... of course I could ask friends to help me, you say. But that is not my point, my point is usability to get wider adoption. That is not the case with pivx right now. I will lurk around however and come back in case you develop this to be a currency for non-tec users as well. Best regards to all of you.

WIP: Blackpi - a stake device based on raspberry

Warning: This is a WiP and it's using Blackcoin Lore which is still in beta. Please be aware of that and backup your wallet.dat before you put any real values in this!
UPDATES
29.12.2017
22.06.2017
I am currently trying to set up blackoin on raspberry. Community members asked for a tutorial to compile it, so I will start with this here. Maybe in the future it would even be possible to turn it into a headless (=without screen and keyboard) image to put on an SD card and just boot up the wallet.
I used the latest Blackcoin Lore by janko33 for this process, however it should be quite the same with the "original" core wallet by rat4/johndolittle. Blackcoin Lore is not deemed as stable as it is still in beta, so it's up to you what source tree you take.
Please be also aware, that compiling on a small computer like raspi can take a while. Please also note that Lore is still in beta. The names in the archive are still "bitcoin". There is an update comming where the naming is correct and also maybe a few bugfixes.
** Tutorial: **
You first need to get raspbian. The lite image will work, it's a small version of the operating system without a graphical interface, so you will need ssh to operate it. The image is 294 MB but you will want to have a bigger card. 2GB is certainly too small, better get 16 or even 32GB - you also will need space for the blockchain!
To install it I followed this guide
https://hackernoon.com/raspberry-pi-headless-install-462ccabd75d0
Get the raspdian image file from:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/
Also get Etcher from
https://etcher.io/
Etcher is a tool to write img files to an SD card/USB-stick.
After writing, open the card in your explorer and add a file "ssh". The file sould be empty and just be called "ssh" (not ssh.txt or something). It will tell raspi to activate ssh on boot.
Then boot up your raspi with the card and plug it into your network. Consult your router's LAN-page to find the device, it should register to your router as "raspberry" or so. Open up Putty and login to your raspi using pi as username and raspberry as password.
After login you can configure your raspi, please read the guide linked above for more details.
Note: One important thing that you should configure is your timezone! Use
sudo raspi-config
Go to 4. Localisation Options and set the time to your timezone. If your time is way off, you would get troubles with staking, so make sure you always have the time set right!
After you got everything set up, get the build environment ready:
sudo apt-get install build-essential libtool autotools-dev automake pkg-config libssl-dev libevent-dev bsdmainutils #Installs alot and can take a while git clone -b Blackcoin-Lore https://github.com/janko33bd/bitcoin Blackcoin-Lore cd Blackcoin-Lore cd depends make -j 6 HOST=arm-linux-gnueabihf cd .. ./autogen.sh ./configure --prefix=`pwd`/depends/arm-linux-gnueabihf
# note: ` = is a "backtick" not an apostroph. It causes the outpupt of "pwd" being inserted there
make -j 6 # -j n tells the compiler to use more cores, speeds that up a little (n = 1.5*cores installed) sudo make install
This should compile so far. Update: Lore does not need Berkeley DB 4.8 to be installed, so just go with the DB provided by the repository works (libdb++-dev). (Thanks patcrypt)
After compile you can run the wallet with
lored
And after it synced you have bitcoin-cli to control the wallet.
Issue: Synching blocks takes an awfully long time on raspi for some reason, even with Lore (that syncs blocks in a few hours instead of a whole day on a normal computer). If anyone knows how to speed up that process, please let us know!
This thread is a WiP. Please post all issues and errors here, I will then edit the OP to make it into a real, working tutorial.
On a note it was mentioned, that using an USB-stick here instead of a card would make sense since the cards are more prone to failure than USB-sticks. I will include setting it up on USB in a later version of this tutorial.
Some tips and tricks
Since compiling takes a longer time, it is recommented to run it in the console in a screen. Screen is a terminal tool that supports multiple windows in the same shell and, most important, detaches when your ssh connection breaks. Using screen you can simply reconnect and use screen -r to attach to your running shell again. To use screen, you need to install and then start it before you start the whole build process within a screen-shell.
sudo apt-get install screen screen #Start install/build process here #Type [ctrl-a] [d] to detach from the screen and put it in the background #After reconnect type screen -r to jump back into your running shell
If you want to see your blocks being processed while the wallet syncs to the network, use the following command on a second shell (new Putty instance or screen window which you can open in screen with [ctrl-a] [c] (hit [ctrl-a] [n] to cycle through the windows in screen)
watch -n 5 lore-cli getinfo #This will execute the command "bitcoin-cli getinfo" every 5 seconds and thus display live update of your wallet info
How to use that thing?
Here are a few helpful CLI commands, call them with lore-cli
help - Returns available commands help - Returns detailed help to a getinfo - Returns a descriptive information of your wallet, including balance getwalletinfo - Returns short information about your wallet, including balance, unconfirmed balance, immature balance, number of tx ect getaccountaddress 'raspi' - Returns an address for your wallet. If the account does not need to exist, it will be created with new address sendtoaddress - Sends to sendtoaddress substractfeefromaccount - Sends minus tx fee to getnewaddress - Returns a new address for each time you call the command. is optional
Further plans for this tutorial/project
Have fun!

QTUM Staking Guide

Is there a place besides Reddit for me or others to contribute to a staking guide?
Table of Contents:
Cold Storage
Without staking, you can still store QTUM private keys offline. (I'm assuming some of this from my experience with Bitcoin and Ethereum. Some of the following statements could be inaccurate)

Easy UASF Node in Debian VM tutorial

So if you have a moderately powerful gaming desktop with a Quad-Core CPU like an i5 or better and 8+GB of RAM, you can easily run your own little UASF node in the background. Once it's done syncing with the network, you won't even notice it's there. Here's how.
You will need :
The following assumes you know how to install Linux in a Virtual Machine
Step I. - Installation. Go through expert install and set up a base system with only ssh server enabled. For partitioning, you can do just one big disk and everything in one partition, but if you happen to have a computer that has both SSD's and HDD's, it would be optimal to create two virtual disks and use a small one for the OS on the SSD and a larger one on the HDD in a custom mount point for the blockchain. Reboot and ssh into the server.
Step II. - Build requirements. A few things need to be taken care of. First, you'll want to edit the /etc/network/interfaces file and set up a static IP. Once that's done, stop by your router and make sure that traffic on port 8333 is forwarded to your debian VM. Then, install some packages we need :
apt update apt upgrade apt install build-essential autoconf libssl-dev libboost-dev libboost-chrono-dev libboost-filesystem-dev libboost-program-options-dev libboost-system-dev libboost-test-dev libboost-thread-dev libevent-dev git libtool pkg-config
The next one is a bit more annoying. We need Berkeley DB 4.8, and it's a little old. It's packages are in the Debian Squeeze archives, so in the /etc/apt/sources.list file, we need to add :
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main
Then remember to update again, and install the thing :
apt install libdb4.8++-dev libdb4.8-dev
If you intend to also throw on xorg and a UI, you will want Qt as well. Otherwise skip this last step.
install libqt4-dev libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler libqrencode-dev
Step III. - Build time
#Starting from /home/yourUser git clone https://github.com/UASF/bitcoin.git -b 0.14-BIP148 cd bitcoin ./autogen.sh ./configure make make install
That's it! Well, mostly. Start it with
bitcoind -daemon -disablewallet -datadir=/whereveyou/want/youblockchain
...and wait about thirty hours to sync with the network. You may want to visit the /whereveyou/want/youblockchain directory and create a permanent bitcoin.conf in there. To enable RPC calls to the server and get it to accept bitcoin-cli commands you'll want to use it to create a usepassword and copy that to your user's /.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf.
Minimal bitcoin.conf example
daemon=1 listen=1 disablewallet=1 server=1 rpcuser=bob rpcpassword=bob's password
Security I recommend you disable password login and use private key authentication only on ssh, and also restrict iptables rules to the bare minimum that must be allowed for this application. You will need this in your iptables script :
# Allows BITCOIN traffic from anywhere -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 8333 -j ACCEPT # Allows RPC calls to the bitcoin server from localhost -A INPUT -p tcp -s 127.0.0.1 --dport 8332 -j ACCEPT

bitcoin-qt ready for use within half an hour … download an up-to-date pruned blockchain

Let us discuss how safe this is :-)
This tutorial is for Linux only but people using other operating systems will understand what to do.
Download the bitcoin blockchain
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0nH34wIYOSlSG81ZUZUZGZjVkE?usp=sharing
This will download (~20 minutes) the 2485 MB file:
bitcoin_blockchain_pruned_550MB_19aug2016.tar.gz
It contains only blocks, no wallet or log files. It has been created with -prune=550
Unpack
tar -zxvf bitcoin_blockchain_pruned_550MB_19aug2016.tar.gz
and observe it contains only blocks and chain state data. This will create the directory:
.bitcoin_pruned_550MB_19aug2016
Let’s assume you move this to ~/.bitcoin_pruned, so
mv .bitcoin_pruned_550MB_19aug2016 ~/.bitcoin_pruned
Run bitcoin-qt
When you start bitcoin-qt, a new wallet will be created: back it up first. My advice is to use bitcoin-qt 0.13.0rc3, because it creates a HD wallet that never runs out of addresses.
Start bitcoin-qt in fast start-up mode first:
bitcoin-qt –prune=550 –checklevel=2 –checkblocks=10 –checkblocksverify=10 –datadir=yourpath/.bitcoin_pruned
and let it sync quickly. Check more thoroughly next time with 10 -> 500000.
You can have a quick look at what’s happening:
tail ~/.bitcoin_pruned/debug.log.

FOR NOW, the drawback is that if you want to add addresses (watch-only or spendable) that already contain bitcoins, you have to create the pruned blockchain from scratch yourself, which takes a lot of time (or have someone with a full blockchain rescan the wallet for you). This is not really necessary: if the user is not interested in the history of his transactions, the balances can be obtained directly from the UTXO set. It has already been approved to add this feature in some future Core release:
https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aopen+label%3AWallet, #8497.
I will automatically update the google drive with new up-to-date blockchains soon.
EDIT:
openssl dgst -sha256 bitcoin_blockchain_pruned_550MB_19aug2016.tar.gz SHA256(bitcoin_blockchain_pruned_550MB_19aug2016.tar.gz)= ce36bcb9ab691c358b27d3051f8f38452bc182ca636eae992563c60805a9d4b0

Simplified explanation for setting up a UASF Full Node on your Raspberry Pi 3.

I decided to undertake an effort to run a full node on my Raspberry Pi. I followed this tutorial, but still found it was too detailed/complicated, so I reduced it down to the basic steps needed to make it happen.
This tutorial will install the UASF binaries to enforce BIP148 on August 1st. Don't be fooled thinking that the recent Barry Silbert agreement has resolved the ongoing scaling issue. Activating Segwit is necessary and UASF is the way to make that happen. Your support is needed.
This tutorial assumes that you are running Raspian, your RaspPi has internet connectivity, you have an external USB hard drive connected formatted as FAT32 and your Linux username is "pi".
IMPORTANT: For your security, you should change your username to something different than "pi" (also choose a strong password. As you will see below, you should enable UPnP or port forward 8333 on your router to your Raspberry Pi, but this creates a security risk.
These instructions will install Bitcoin Core without wallet functionality.
Create a directory that will act as a mount point for the USB drive:
[email protected]~$ mkdir ~/bitcoinData
With your USB drive connected, run this command to confirm that your drive is recognized as /dev/sd1:
[email protected]~$ sudo blkid
In order to tell your Raspberry Pi to mount your USB drive automatically so that anything we put in the bitcoinData directory will be going onto the USB drive we need to edit the /etc/fstab file:
[email protected]~$ sudo nano /etc/fstab
Add the following line to the fstab file. The following assumes that the drive was /dev/sd1:
/dev/sda1 /home/pi/bitcoinData vfat uid=pi,gid=pi,umask=0022,sync,auto,nosuid,rw,nouser 0 0
Save the fstab file and reboot. When re-started, navigate with the File Manager to /home/pi/bitcoinData and make sure the folder size corresponds to the approximate size of your external drive. This is important, otherwise, the blockchain will be saved to the micro SD card. Unless your card is 256GB, it won't fit.
Enlarge the swap file, by editing the dphys-swapfile:
[email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ sudo nano /etc/dphys-swapfile
Change "CONF_SWAPSIZE=100" to "CONF_SWAPSIZE=1000". Save the file, then exit. Now run:
[email protected]~$ sudo dphys-swapfile setup [email protected]~$ sudo dphys-swapfile swapon
Update your Raspbian:
[email protected]~$ sudo apt-get update [email protected]~$ sudo apt-get upgrade -y
Install some packages:
[email protected]~$ sudo apt-get install autoconf libevent-dev libtool libssl-dev libboost-all-dev libminiupnpc-dev -y [email protected]~$ sudo apt-get install qt4-dev-tools libprotobuf-dev protobuf-compiler libqrencode-dev -y
Make a directory and change to that directory:
[email protected]~$ mkdir ~/bin [email protected]~$ cd ~/bin
Install Bitcoin:
[email protected]~/bin$ git clone https://github.com/UASF/bitcoin.git -b 0.14-BIP148 [email protected]~/bin$ cd bitcoin/ [email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ ./autogen.sh [email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ ./configure --enable-upnp-default --disable-wallet [email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ make -j2
It will take about 2 hours for the "make -j2" to finish. Once done, run:
[email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ sudo make install
Now, create a bitcoin.conf file:
[email protected]~/bin/bitcoin$ cd ~/bitcoinData [email protected]~/bitcoinData$ nano bitcoin.conf
Let's run this bad boy:
[email protected]~$ bitcoin-qt
On the first start, choose the blockchain data directory as "/home/pi/bitcoinData". Expect that it will take 2 to 3 weeks to fully sync the blockchain.
The step that includes "enable-upnp-default" is intended to open the necessary port (8333) in your router. Either way, you may want to consider port-forwarding port 8333 to your Pi.
You should now go to https://bitnodes.21.co/ and click the ‘CHECK NODE’ button to see how your node appears to other nodes on the network. This is important as it lets your node contribute to the network and adds to the UASF support on node statistics.
Enjoy!

Particl's Proof of Stake system

Hello all, In this article i like to explain to you the Proof of Stake system that Particl uses.
(Particl was officially launched July 17, 2017 // former umbra.Shadowproject.io)

Specifics:
Total Coins: 8,634,140 PART
Network: Proof of Stake
Block time: 2 minutes
The Foundation receives a 10% of every stake to sustain long term development and hire more devs/bounties etc. one stake is currently 1.5 part.

Staking reward per year
first year 5%
second year 4%
third year 3%
forth year 2% ++

You can calculate your stakes at different network weights (25%,50%,75%..) with the staking calculator (link below). Currently it is about 50-60%. The Network Weight Information can be called via getstakinginfo command in cli or qt-console) also in the partyman tool via ./partyman status

https://particl.wiki/staking

Auguste Kerckhoffs demanded that security must depend entirely or at least in large part on the key. He describes the requirements for secure encryption as follows: "A procedure is safe if you can not crack it, even though you know the code." In 1883, Auguste Kerckhoffs, in his book La Cryptographie Militaire, describes the following six rules derived from his studies of historical cryptography, which should be followed by everyone if he wants to keep his secret.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auguste_Kerckhoffs

With this in mind im totally confident in the solid Proof of Stake setup. Particl a btcfork on latest bitcoin codebase 0.15x is designed to let everyone participate in the network while maintaining the security of it.

To be honest, in key principles it is very simple, but all together it still is a lot of stuff to talk about. Cause Particl's Proof of Stake system is different from other passive income systems.
The pure PoS (without masternodes or something similar, should cause less centralization and more adoption in the long term)

Cold Staking

Cold Staking makes the whole staking process quantum resistant, you will be able to stake from a virtual server with a public node (that dont has any funds on it, but it stakes your offline/cold storage coins and only has the ability to stake and not to spend any funds).
Besides that the PoS of Particl will get merged together with the Market features (voting and of course the Marketplace fees that gets flooded into the Rewards).
If Particl continues to get adopted in the e-commerce & cryptocurrencie space, this really is a factor everyone should ask themselves if it could be worth investing.

It is still a bit of road to go (Q1 2018) and there are some other projects, but i cant see one that puts the whole vision of free and decentralized trading into one, while maintaining trustlessnes and simplicity.

Particl already has RingCT and CT working on Bitcoin Codebase & a legal foundation sitting in Switzerland.

Come join and earn passive income, while strengthen & supporting the network
