Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

Sky broadband has now decided Bitcoin related sites must be blocked "To prevent illegal activity"

Just got off the phone with a very friendly but ultimately useless young chap at Sky who informed me that I couldn't access mining.bitcoin.cz as it and many other bitcoin-related sites have been blocked (and will be staying that way) in order "to prevent illegal activity, and comply with court orders"
I do not have the words...
Edit: I live in the UK, though possibly not for much longer if this sort of thing keeps up
DoubleEdit: Seems to be working ok now. My guess is that either they switched the filter on on our account for shits and giggles, or the site was blocked by accident and they've now fixed it.

Is anyone here running a Bitcoin related site with Bitcoin as payment option? What's your experience?

We are about to launch a Bitcoin related service. As all our customers will hold some kind of crypto currency we are thinking about a Bitcoin-only payment system.
Is anyone here running a business with similar conditions? What are your experiences with Bitcoin payments? Does it work or do 99% of customers still pay with credit card? Does this still hold true as transaction costs are now on the decline?

Webroot anti-virus software flags every single Bitcoin related site... regardless.

I am yet to find a Bitcoin site that Webroot does not flag with a warning in the browser protection addon. I believe it is a standard policy - if the site is Bitcoin related... shoot first, and to hell with asking questions. I emailed them requesting an explanation, but I'm not holding my breath.

Advice on Bitcoin related site

Hello /webdev,
I just created http://btcwishingwell.org . The idea was to create "just for fun" kind of social environment in the form of a wishing well. People would be able to (more or less) interact with each other, or group similar "wishes" by tossing a coin nearby the coins/wishes they are interested in. (or pick any spot to just leave a wish). The idea that spoke to me most was that the wish / interaction is permanent. A coin with attached wish is thrown into the well and it stays there forever. (as long as the VPS holds out at least).
The decision to throw bitcoin in the mix was obvious for multiple reasons:

I am running into a few obstacles i hope you can help me with:
Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions regarding the site or the technology behind it please ask. it's pretty straightforward, i'm no wizzard and am still trying to grasp the bitcoin possibilities.
Edit: Please let me know if you want to walk through it. I'll changetip you if i'm sure you won't scam me ;)

How do bitcoin related sites handle storing private keys?

I was curious if anyone could explain technically how sites secure their private keys? I know that they keep a hot wallet with funds as well as cold offline storage, but when they generate a private key, it has to be somewhere for the server to access right? How do sites handle that? I read this article https://bitcoinmagazine.com/19592/okcoin-reveals-security-policy-sets-standard-operational-transparency/
But I'm confused as to how they keep their private keys from touching the internet, in order to send the funds they would have to use the private key to interact with the block chain right? Please help to understand this.
Thank you

Should ICANN designate a top-level domain for all bitcoin related sites and businesses, what would it be?

If countries, organizations, and related interests have domain extensions like .us, .org, .com and so on, than why not have one for international bitcoin sites?

How about a Circle-of-Trust-like browser plugin for bitcoin-related sites?

Saw how the poor soul lost his coins to bitcointools.appspot.com [most likely] and thought it would be nice to have a warning that others have deemed this site less-than-trustworthy.
Edit: I remembered incorrectly. "Web of Trust". See here
